Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists playing Thomas
Partey in defence worked well for his team as the Gunners defeated Nottingham
Forest in their opening game of the season.
Thomas Partey showed his versatility after Arteta
force played him at the right-back role for Arsenal on Saturday, despite been
playing most of his life career as a midfielder.
According to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta, the
Ghanaian international brings fluidity to the team and the game against
Nottingham needed someone different to be in the midfield position.
"What we expected in that game actually
happened and we needed somebody different there in midfield to do what we have
to do the best, and have more fluidity to occupy certain spaces in relation to
how they were defending and playing style. I think it worked very well us,"
he said after the match.
Halftime goals from English-Ghanaian forward Nketiah
and Saka were enough for arsenal to secure an opening day win.
Thomas Partey was rumoured to be on his way out of
the club to juventus following the arrival of Declan Rice, but it looks like
Mikel Arteta has a plan for the ex-Atletico Madrid star.
